Fiona McTavish has been an integral part of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council since 2012 and was appointed Chief Executive in mid-2018. Beyond her many contributions, Fiona’s leadership has been instrumental in advancing the Council’s directives, including key strategic initiatives such as sustainable development, community engagement, and fostering regional growth and progress.

Prior to her tenure in local government, Fiona spent 20 years in central government in Wellington, where she held senior roles in the education and health sectors. This extensive public service experience has provided her with a deep understanding of policy development and implementation. In the private sector, Fiona worked as an international consultant and General Manager for the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, advancing its strategic goals and global presence.

Fiona’s leadership extends beyond her role as Chief Executive at Council. She is a Director of the Quayside Group of companies, serves as a Regional Shared Services Director and is a Board Member of Priority One, an organisation focused on fostering business growth in the Bay of Plenty.

A passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion, Fiona is a member of Global Women, an organisation dedicated to promoting diversity in leadership roles. Her commitment to these values has seen Fiona participate in national-level working groups and boards, as well as numerous trustee roles. Fiona’s career is distinguished by her dedication, strategic vision, and unwavering commitment to fostering inclusive leadership.
